Sort of, and I see your concerns... basically, MS bought out a 3rd party =
app (GIANT was the beta I product) and built on it. Here's the deal =
though. The ZoneAlarm vs. Windows built in firewal app intended to block =
things out.... now do you REALLY think that MS is blocking themselves in =
their own firewall?=20

Of the spyware stuff.... my belief is that MS is going to spy on you if =
you're on the net. Period. What they won't do is sell your private data =
off on the black market or hang/hose your CPU time up with replicating. =
They'll have back doors, IMHO, that nobody else save the govt will be =
keen to. In a corporate, twisted kind of way I'm actually ok with this. =
That very thing might be the ticket to nailing some terrorists. Vista, =
after all the hoopla has died, will be little if any different in this =
respect. If you want a scary bedtime story, start reading all your =
EULAs. This goes for most EULAs (including Apple) outside of MS, but not =
all of course. There are freeware alternatives, but that a completely =
different bucket of worms. Bottom line in those EULAs is: You own =
nothing, you are allowed to USE software.=20

I'll pick my battles, and I can attest that the 100ish machines I have =
on beta II Windows Defender have zero fail/infections found by other =
means rates. In corporate security, it's about layers of protection so I =
prefer scans of the scanner from time to time to check the henhouse. =
Zero fails. That's not something I take lightly and it's about what =
quality of job is getting done, not as much as who's doing it.=20

Rock on. Good help here.

Frankly, I don't have a problem with Billy Gates anymore. I trust him =
more than Bush by a long shot. Hmmmmm...Gates for =
President.....hmmmm.....

Anyway, XP has been solid for me, and I use a variety of trawlers and =
crawlers to check for malware: Spyware Doctor and Blaster, Ad-Aware, =
Spybot Search and Destroy, etc.

Speaking of malware, does Windows Defender cover Trojans? I've been =
using TrojanHunter for a while now, but it seems overly proactive =
sometimes with its self-appointed moves and such...
