pressor.... yuck. i want instant a/b reference
without the distraction of switching screens, bypass, switch back, un-solo,
switch to paris again, undo bypass, switch back to nuendo.... YUCK YUCK
YUCK!
i don't think this is possible without a central station or external mixer
(adding color yuck!) or a/b box.
but some of you technical wizards might think of a way.
thanks.Jeremy,
Simple if you don't use the Paris Master Comp until after the mix is
printed. Apply it afterward. If you are interacting with the comp during
mixdown then this won't work. This will also give a nice, less compressed
mix for mastering.
Now maybe some smart people will chime in.
Good luck,

My thinking was, If you could pop in the 24bit version of the Alesis chip
and you could get the PARIS software to recognize the 24bits, that would
be vary cool. Add in latency compensation and a second comp for effect processing
and...
I originally asked that question back in 98 or 99.

newsgroup. I run the POD full open but have the individual patches back'd
off, so this may in fact be what is the problem. I finger pick an acoustic
patch which is the queitest so all other patches are balanced with that one.
I will try backing off the output level. Thanks for the possible fix.

So I rushed home to do the install of 3.0. Says to blow away the old version
(that was working fine last night) before I went on with the install. So
I did that. Files seem to down load right, but right after the opening screen
says it can't find the master card and that I should check connections and
make sure they are tight. They are all tight. I can't get any further in
the install. Any thoughts.........everytime I try and make something better......

actually... what is so freekin incredible about everything paris (including
mike buss com), unless you are just bat-shit insane you can't really crush
paris to death... it never sounds crushed... it doesn't get small.... it
doesn't distort in a digital way. maybe someday i'll get interviewed and be
like "yeah i heard that some big mix guy, lord-fungus or something, uses
some old dash machine in 16 bit which contributes to his 'sound'. i use
this old daw some damn keyboard company couldn't sell.. it runs on a pc and
it has a sound too... and it freekin rocks!"
;-))
back to the point... yeah i guess i need a central station. i have a mackie
1202 i could use but i'm to scared to monitor anything through that piece of
poo.
i'm re-mixing a song on the a/c chart for 'hot a/c' airplay.. (actually 2
songs). and i want to a/b stuff. plus i always reference other songs in
the same genre when i'm mixing anything.
maybe i'll post this one when i'm done for you cats to check out. its a
kinda pop/inspiration 6/8 tune.
jLI could be wrong, but I thought in the past it was discussed that the
software has nothing to do with the bitrate, other than switching 16 or 24
bit capture? IIRC, that was discovered when the project to make AES modules
out of IF2's was being pursued.

>yup. Here's the deal. Your 'master' card changed positions, although I
thought for some reason that was a PCI bus Windows 95/98 versus ME/XP deal.
Put on ONE interface (442 or MEC) and move the plug around the EDS cards
(the SCSI one) until you get a hit. Then you've found your master card and
can add any other interfaces.

>That makes sense. If the ADAT card and the .dll passed 24 bits OK, what
could the PARIS app have to complain about? It'd make sense for it to just
see it as another 24-bit input, like one coming off an 8i card.

>Kerry, this was a custom Alesis Adat chip. The first step would be to contact
Alesis and inquire about buying a later version of the chip that was designed
for 24bit. They use to have an OEM partner department for all the ADAT partners.
I'm sure they still do licensing and sell OEM parts. There may be somebody
still around that worked with Ensoniq when they supplied them with the chip.
It's going to be a long shot, but it's worth a try. Maybe they can look
the chip up and tell you what the last version on that chip was and give
you a spec sheet or technical white paper on it. The newer replacement chip
might be used in products like AI1-4, the Masterlink, or the Adat HD24.
FYI, I think you will get farther if you approach them as a company, than
as an individual.

>Hey Jeremy,
Print to analog 24 out if that needs to be part of your sound and
SPDIF if not. It might darken it up a tad. I must have been asleep
when I typed that last night. The insert effects will still be part of
that signal unless...
you put an external in your first insert slot and route that to SPDIF or
analog outs for effectless printing of mix and apply effects in the
final three slots for processing to your onboard hard drive. You
will have to create a loop in the paris patchbay so the signal
gets back into the 2 bus for the final stage.

play keys. My initial memory is that he played bass all night.
I was thinking this was post-Dave Mason but now that I think of it Mason
was playing guitar. I think. Wood played some keys as well as woodwinds.
Hmmm. Think Mason played some organ, too.
I do remember that most of the night -- perhaps all of the night -- Winwood
played bass guitar. Maybe he did John Barleycorn on acoustic guitar as an
encore, and I think piano on Low Spark.
Man. I haven't thought about this in decades. It's nice to know some of those
brain cells are still there.

Hi All,
I think I've got the ADAT XP bugs worked out.
I've attached a zip file that contains a new version of the PSCL and the
adat.dll. They both contain debugging code that writes to a text file in
the c directory. I'll pull this out and repost the files once we are sure
we're ok.
Instructions:
1) Open up the folder: C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ensoniq\PlugIns\MEC\Driver
2) Make a copy of your existing adat.dll file somewhere else on your computer,
like the desktop or my
