src="images/smiley_icons/icon_smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" /> I truly appreciate it. Everything seems to be working great. I'm running Windows 7 32 on a dual core CPU. I'm far from a power user but this setup gives me room for 2 EDS cards and 2 MEC modules. I currently don't have any modules like I said I'm fffaaarrr from a power user. Here's a couple of pics the savings in room is awesome in my situation..

eaper / focusrite saffire io / tascam US2400 setup and will probably have some Paris stuff needing a good home. I plan on keeping a double system and probably moving out the rest. I'll give you first dabs on the spare stuff.

Once again, great lookin project.
Cheers
Rob_A Well, I went ahead and put that path in place, and got this error message upon Paris start-up:

"This application has failed to start because StockFx.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

Thing is,after x-ing out the four repeated error screens, Paris started right up, and all the Paris plugins, new and old, seem to be present. I didn't stress-test things, but any advice is appreciated.

Haven't heard back from Mike yet...

Thanks Rob, that's very kind. I will email you....Jim2 EDS cards (2 spare)
1 MEC (1 spare)
2 8-in cards
1 8-out card
2 C-16 (2 spare)
(1 spare IF-442)
(2 spare IF-2)

I am trying to ad a second EDS1000 and I am getting an error message. Is there an arhived simple diagram of the patch bay set up and the insallation procedure I am missing.?I don't think the patch-bay will be of any help. What would be of help is which error message you are getting, as well as your complete configuration.Steve, when you connected the two EDS cards internally in the "x" shape, did you double check none of the connections were displaced by one pin? It's easy to get them one row of pins too far in one direction or the other.any takers??
Dunno what folks use, but here's the notes from the Wiki on some guidelines for configuration numbers:

Quote:
[A note about the structure of the Paris.cfg - a line beginning with the asterisk is a "comment", meaning it's ignored by the app - it's merely there to provide you with a reference. The second line gives the actual value (in the following case, 128 MB).]

Paris.cfg line by line:

Cache Size (in mb)

* Cache Size in MB
CacheSize=128

Disk I/O (undefined value - perhaps samples?)

* I/O

configuration
IOSize=256

Edmund's discussion of cache settings follows:

The cache size is determined by two factors:

- The Disk IO Size, and
- Number of REAL tracks of playback.

So for Brian with 80 tracks he will need about 5 times the usual amount. More memory is needed IF you switch to larger disk I/O or have additional submixes (count each virtual submix as a 2 more tracks). There is definitely nothing wrong with using larger disk cache sizes, as long as you have the RAM...

Edmund Pirali
Intelligent Devices, Inc.

Note this interaction:

Here is how it works:

- The only factor that will effect number of tracks played/record is the disk I/O size. The larger the size, the more efficient the disk is (almost always), but slower the response time of PARIS.
- The Disk Cache Size needs to be adjust as you increase the disk I/O until it shows the number of tracks you intent to playback. Thats the only real effect. Also if the disk cache is larger smaller loops MAY play from memory and not require disk access.
- The overview cache size usually does not play into this.

Your SeaGate MAY be fast enough got 24 tracks in 24 bits, but your internal Mac SCSI may not be. You may need a SCSI accelerator card.

By the standards of 1999 we generally have incredible amounts of RAM available, and much faster drives with far greater capacity - boost away, just remember to keep the ratios Edmund suggests in mind.wow
pretty coolYes to the ADAT first.
Yes to the C-16 second.

What is the line lump option? The line lump is basically a box that sits between the C-16 and the computer. It converts from the serial protocol that the C-16 speaks to MIDI so that the C-16 can be used with other programs besides PARIS...Now that's interesting indeed.

And what would it take to get a couple of those made?

I'm assuming the C16s would interface with the computer via a midi input?

One really dumb question is would any of the other controls, i.e. transport, solo, mute etc be usable?

Could you make one Reaper Specific?

All the controls would be available. At some level, they are just button presses, so you'd need to map them for specific functions in your application. I don't use Reaper, but I'm sure the buttons could be mapped for that...Check your PMsWhere can I get 3.0 software. I am on 2.1, Win 98, have all black interface, 16 chanel Mec

and so on. Also will need the 'migration to XP guid and couldn't find it in here.
Thanks to any one who can help.
Steve Jones http://www.parisfaqs.com/

its all in there
super easy to doThanks, I had that link and lost it
SteveCool. Here's the specific section of paris on xp

http://www.parisfaqs.com/parisonxp.htmlThanks! I have the web site book marked.
It has been a struggle to get back with the program. Three years ago my studio was robbed and it put me out of business. Plus, I went through a divorce; all within a two month period. Just now getting back on the horse. I got all my stuff back. But, a lot of it was broken in the theft ordeal. I just pushed everything into a corner and only recently started fixing things.
It's all good now.Sad
Sorry to hear that. hope you get back into action in a snap.Fantastic job. Did you cut and bend the sheetmetal from the back of the MEC, or did you use new sheet to make the housing around the connector section? Yep, I am. I already have one C16 and two EDS cards working and I'm ready to move up to a dual core XP system I am building. I even got a couple good jobs because I mentioned Paris in my ads and there seems to be a developing cult following of Paris.Haha. niiiiceeee
glad to hear Smile Thanks Colin. It is all new metal. I wanted to be able to, and can if I choose return the MEC to perfect stock condition very easily. yikes

Glad to see you're looking ahead

Best

TedI've given up on trying to make Paris run under Windows 7 (BSOD immediately upon program launch) so I've decided to go back to XP. I've gotten everything running great in a non-updated Win XP SP3 machine, very excited....problem is I ran all the updates (about 3 years worth or so) and now the Paris init hangs everytime at initializing EDS/DirectX effects.

Is there a known update that I shouldn't have loaded? I may try unloading Media Player 11 and see if that makes a difference. It's the only thing I know of that would have dinked around with DirectX.

Any help appreciated!

Thanks
MichaelI get this error quite often.
You are probably using a combination of plugins that don't play nice together.
Don't sweat it though, as I'm always able to load projects after a couple of tries. (after a reboot).
Also, sometimes it helps to click on the project icon and open Paris that way.
Pain in the arse, I know, but with a bit of patience the project will load..
Awesomeness achieved!!Hi Michel, could this be Pace related maybe? I've had Paris hang at startup becau

se of Pace.No I don't think so. It was loading just fine with straight XP SP3 from the 3 years ago or so build...run Windows updates, poof, hang at init EDS/DirectX. I'm going run Win repair again and start over at the SP3 stage and update very slowly which will be a bear because there are 95 or so updates since then.

BTW, I backed out of Media Player 11 and 11 runtime with no effect....also took out NET framework 4 with no effect. Very Happy

Nashville always had a good PARIS base (I assume from your name you live there). I was there for 11 years before moving about a year ago and knew a handful of PARIS users that also seemed to either move or move on....but at least for the most part a lot of good engineers there know PARIS for what it is. Hi All. Just another heads-up about one of the most useful utilities out there!
If you have a bunch of bundled plugins installed, (waves comes to mind Smile, and only use a few, this little app will disable them.
Paris loads much quicker once you cull the dead wood.
Analog-x's version was cool, but it deleted them. With this baby, you can re-activate them at will. COOL!!
It's 72kb, and doesn't install.
here is the link:

http://vb-audio.pagesperso-orange.fr/us/resources/plugman/vb _plugman.htm

enjoy! My week-end gig got canceled. But, I managed to scroung up a measly 5 hour job. So, I have enough to pay for the one C16.
I would still rather have the software than do the 3.0 download from the site. You would know because obviously you bought the software instead of doing the download. But, is there any advantage to having the disks over doing the download and what the heck is Pace anyway? Being old school, I would rather have something in my hand than a file on my computer. I am probably just being silly, wanting the original printed disks.
My old 2.1 on Windows 98 just continues to work problem free.OK the culprit was Internet Explorer 8. After I rolled it back, the init EDS/DirectX hang went away. I'm not sure why this would decide to interfere after all these years....Microsoft fiddling with things as usual. There's probably a way to repair it in the registry but I'm not going to fool with it since it's not a heavy use internet machine.

Also successfully using the XP multicore scherzo. On a 2 EDS card, 2.8 ghz P4 HT/MSI 865PE 2003 vintage machine, I have a 28 track mix loaded with DX plugs and a few EDS plugs running at 32%-ish processor performance on one core and the second (fake HT core) one around 1 - 5%. Very nicely responsive Paris setup.

I am in the process of moving to a Protools 9/Presonus StudioLive firewire setup. Having Protools, a new computer and the StudioLive in hand, I'm not excited about repurchasing all the plugs but the older stuff that still works fine in Paris is now orphaned in modern DAWs. However, it's time to move on so to speak.

I'll still operate Paris to access my older projects and master new ones. Actually looking forward to having the best of both worlds!Hey Mike, im in the same boat as you, moving over to Reaper/focusrite saffire 56 and my old trusty 2 card Paris in the background for now. I am on the fence for protools 9 thow. I take it your protools rig will be on win7?

Cheers
Rob no davantage. it's basically the same thing. i actually downloaded the software too. it is on a burned disk.

Pace-> http://www.paceap.com/I tried the asio driver from Mike but I was unlucky.
I could not get it to work with any app like wavelab 6 or old steinberg VST 5.
In the beginning it asked me about some ddl file which I found over the internet and installed.
Then I installed the C++ microsoft in case it was needed.
No more asking dlls but when trying to load wavelab it always said under asio control no hardware open thing...
Puting the old asio dll back it just crashes wavelab so this is worse.
I am sure something is missing here from my side but I wonder so I would like to share with some of you who have tried the asio thing !!
I really need this cause I sold all my other audio cards and am lef only with Paris !!
I have a MEC with two input cards.
Maybe the input cards are disturbing Mike's asio dll but I won't take them out yet.
I will try next days with a second empty mec to see if I will have any better luck.
MIKE if you know some more please let me know !

tring theory. Bye for now old friend...I gave up using Ozone in Paris and went with Izotope Alloy which works much better for me. The latency of Ozone is huge, a thousand or so samples whereas Alloy is only 1 or 2 samples and does a lot of the same things... The high latency of Ozone for me is a real deal breaker, and the sound of my mixes really improved when I stopped using it in Paris. I still use it for mastering in Wavelab though...I concur on the saving order. It shouldn't make any difference but for some reason it does... I have also noticed that Stereo DX plugins on adjacent pairs of channels can be problematic, however if there is a mono channel in between there isn't a problem. I ended up disabling DX and using an effects chainer for all my DX plugs and now everything plays nice SmileSincere condolences to his family and to you for the loss of a good friendSo sorryWell, for the first time in a while, I got the error message again, but not when I closed, just when trying to open a project. I only had a few plugs loaded, and I had just been working on it this aft, so I went through the few plugs and removed/replaced them one by one. Sure enough, I found a plug that wouldn't play...

Which one?
like the rest, sorry for your and his families loss.

rickVery sad.Yay from DubyaYep, I have PT9 running on a seperate new Win 7 dual core laptop for the moment (a big i7 quad or 6 core tower coming this Summer as funds allow) driving it with firewire from the StudioLive. I also have the direct outs from the StudioLive driving the IN boards on my MEC, using a DB-25 to multi TRS cable. A session I did just a couple of days ago, I tracked with PT and Paris simultaneously using this setup. Worked flawlessly!

I was "on the fence" too regarding PT until I did some research on what the now native PT9 and modern plugs are capable of and was just blown away. I decided I was cheating myself not to at least have access to some of that action. As far as I'm concerned tracking and mixing will always be tracking and mixing and Paris does that as good as anyone. PT is just another tool in the toolbox...if anything a compatibility sales tool and a modicum of credibility with customers who only know the buzzword Protools.I vote yes...I really need to come here and keep up with what's going on more ofter.
Dumb Q...can PT native run VST plugs? The line lump project would be very useful to me. Especially interfacing with Reaper.YESI tried a mec without any cards.
The error I get again says runtime error
Is there a specific runtime I sould install for these drivers that might needed ?
Regards,
DimitriosI am very sorry.

R.I.P.Hey my friends,

I know I have to move on and want to built a PC that can run Paris, and now I remember theres some kind of limitation on the PCI port, like it has to be lower voltage or somethin,
"the EDS cards WILL NOT fit in 3.3v PCI slots" -taken from the Paris FAQ. Do I actually have to buy an older mainboard??

Or does anybody know something good that can handle 2 EDS cards and works with Intel i7?

Im so looking forward for the new machine! Smile

Thanks and greetings,

Micha

That's great! As soon as I make it I'll post a thread with pics and stuff !Hi, check this thread as well, may find some useful info. The system is running smoothly, now a hybrid Reaper/Paris box.

http://kerrygalloway.com/ParisForums/index.php?t=msg&got o=104803&#msg_104803is anyone having success with a newer Motherboard with 3 pci slots? if so,recommendations?I use a Asus A8S-X motherboard with an AMD 2.6 gig processor.
1 gig of Ram and two EDS1000, correctly installed in Win 98 SE.
No problems until: I got to mixing 6 channels in the Master Section with with an average of 10 chanels per 'card mix.'
Finally! I got bogged down and the evil message about not being able to read the data fast enough.
I can economise down to 4 Master Sections using a couple virtual mixes and two automated card mixes with no problems.
But, my question is:
With what I have, is that my limit? Has the fat lady sang?
Or could I add another gig or two of RAM and get out to the 6 or 7 fairly full 16 channel mixes that I need; with every channel heavily minipulated and mostly automated?
Thanks,
Steve

I think people were pushing Athlon 800s that hard years before, if memory serves. Did you go through the optimization tips from John's site? I'd start there first and if that doesn't get results look at bottlenecks like drivers, or finding a way to speed up throughput from the audio drive.I haven't done it, but, yep, with the VST to RTAS Adapter (wrapper) http://www.fxpansion.com/index.php?page=15Yes, I used a optimization check list from the Paris web site. But, there seemed to be more things to tweak on John's list; mostly for XP. I am still on Win 98 SE and will go through the list you sugested and see if anything applies to Win 98.
I am not complaining. I am mixing 84 tracks of stuff, all being manipulated with compression and other effects.
I just wondered if that was the end of the line. Would more RAM help? That's my last option for squeezing out a little more performance.
As I get further into revitalizing my Paris system, I can't help but wonder why Paris bit the dust, years ago. When I listen to what my friends are doing on Music Row using Pro Tools; I know if someone gave me a new Pro Tools rig, I would sell it and buy more Paris parts for the future.
I suspect the 'Creative' digital converters used by Paris are the key and that they are a lot better than most in the biz gave credit for.
SteveI have purchased one, and I believe the seller has one more of these.
Hasn't arrived yet, but the concept of a quad output ATI graphics card gave me a boner.
Also, it is a 1X PCI-E card, which means that SIX monitors on my paris system is a real possibility!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ATI-FireMV-2400-256-Quad-DVI-VISTA-PCI-E -x1-Video-Card-/370515981029?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash= item56447932e5

I got mine from a robotics company in Las Vegas NV. Sorry. I don't recall the name of the place but Google search should do the trick.
Yes to the line lump and the ADAT IF.Me too for the line lump and the 24-bit ADAT interface.Crikey Kim, 6 monitors would be scary. Apart from the huge chunk of bench real estate....what would you have on each monitor? It could get a bit like the control panel in the Starship Enterprise! Or give a new twist to surround sound mixing. Just kidding mate. I thought I read, some while ago now, that someone was working on developing what was essentially a control 16 with motorized faders, specifically for use in the paris application- and that the goal was actually within sight, and was projected to be ready in about a year's time from when I had read that. has anybody, other than myself, ever heard or read anything about this, and know anything about how progress with that project might be going, if this is true? After a year of putting it off I finally installed my 8 in card in the slot next to my beloved ADAT card. The damn thing is not showing up in the patchbay. At first I thought it was showing only the 8in and leaving out the ADAT. Not the case. I've got the ADAT in slot one and the 8 in installed in slot two. When PARIS is launched, all the little lights flash, but no show at the patchbay disco! POOP! Any thoughts?
Hi Colin.
It arrived today. Have yet to test it, but will keep you posted!
One card for four monitors! Awesome!!
Remember, I have four EDS cards, and like to devote one monitor for each submix! Yeah, my desktop is starting to resemble the Enterprise, but... what the hey!!! (to quote FZ!!)
This is kinda fun anyway!
Cheers,
KimI'm an idiot. Just sorted it out with the trusty reference
