w/ no problem. then I made a small change and tried to run another
mix. No luck. The computer (1.25 mHz dual processor G4) stopped
responding the keyboard and mouse and finally stopped w/ an error
message each time. I finally disabled two of the Cambridges and it ran.

The meter read around 63%.

I've run mixes that clocked around 70 - 71% with no problems more
serious than a slightly slow curser. Could this be a symptom of a
bad UAD-1 card? I'm running two UAD-1 cards in the G4 with 4
EDS cards in a Magma expansion chassis. My computer lives in a
closet and runs pretty warm in spite of many fans sucking air out
thru a hole in the wall and leaving the door open most of the time.
Maybe one of my cards has begun to fail...

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Gantt,
I'd definately try a cold fix first. Get a big ol' noisy fan on that =
Magma
or wherever the heat is and see if there's a difference. Or try it from =
a=20
cold start tomorrow and see if that helps. Maybe a bad card if that=20
doesn't help. I'd render everything that can be, line as many tracks as
you can to the sample level and see if that doesn't help.

I have it from a very respected and reliable source that *real men* don't
dither..........they truncate.

No, IMHO, *truncation* just sounds like a much more manly thing to
do........I mean, *dither*?????......it sounds sort of like something a
fairy would sprinkle on something.

------=_NextPart_000_006A_01C5B923.EB8B5C60--Hi Pete-

IMO, this is absolutely a power supply issue. I went through
two of them, with the exact symptoms you have described.

Get a 550W supply, and you should be fine.

1- Strip it down to a bare box, vid card, HD, Ram...etc
2- Try swapping video card
3- Try another pwr supply

If you still cant get a beep out of it at this point and this box was
running perfectly before, I think you may need to go shopping for a new
MoBrd my friend.

Good luck

And Dimitrios is right, I should see if mercinary will let me take a few
units out. Even if I pay a rental fee. I know what I am lookinng for is not
goinng to be the last pre I buy. I just need sort of an all around up grade
for main overdubs. This seems like a good chois.
I was thinking the Funkenworks looked cool too at 975.00

I'm sure they will let you audition a few different units if you have the
room on your credit card. I plan on doing just that very soon, with a couple
mics.

I am not an expert on anything, hence my general lack of tech input on this
board. But I have experience with Avalon, Great River, Crane Song, and a few
other pres.

I would gladly add a Crane Song unit to my rack. Avalon? Ehh...not so
much...and that is an opinion I have heard echoed generally by many people
on the web. Avalon has long enjoyed widespread use in the hip-hop industry,
though...

I've got a song that the band wants to edit in a major way ie: Cutting out
and Adding sections. The problem is that the song has some major automation
going on and the automations edits will have to be moved, cut or added.

Are there any tricks to doing this ie: "snap to object end" like in the edit
window ?

If not I'm looking at one major cluster f-ck

Don,
I would choose your edit point and place a marker there.
Select and cut all objects and automation data at this point.
Now cut and paste should work for everything except mutes
that cross that line. It has worked for me in the past. Surprisingly
simple if you don't forget where you are in the process.=20
