Yes, the name isn't top shelf.
That is the problem with the biz. So you aren't shit unless you got an SSL
and a full blown ProTools system. I guess it depends on what you want to
do. A lot comes down to engineering skills.
Right now nothing in the market does what the Tascam does for the money.
I think it should be listened to first before it's completely dismissed.
I'm sure you can get some good work done on the Tascam. For any thing critical,
most would use an out board mic pre. With the Tascam, you could save a lot
of money to buy high end mic pres.

There are still guys running studios with Mackies and Adats that are making
money. I wouldn't do it but we are all on different levels.

Did I say an SSL? No, I suggested an older lower-range Trident;
it's going to sound a fuckload better from input to mixdown than,
any Tascam I've ever heard AND it's got a name people recognize
as being top-shelf.

1.) You really don't "need" a console these days - what, with
most people preferring to mix & match external mic pres &
channel strips anyway.
2.) If you DO get a console, it then becomes the focus of your
room, and your rack of massenburg, neve, and API preamps takes
an immediate back seat; and because lots of clients are brand-
aware, you'd better make it a good desk, otherwise you may find
your "investment" may actually cost you gigs.

Sounds like communist idealism! So all enterprise and businesses are greedy?

#1 - I never said anyone in particular was greedy, nor am I looking to call
anyone greedy. You are arguing your ideals with anyone
that post in any Mac related thread and putting words in other posters posts
to continue your Apple crusade. It's getting really, really old.
#2 - If you mistakenly and sadly think that Habitat for Humanity and other
charity organizations are communist
idealistic principles, and can't distinquish between corporate and
altruistic motivations, then obviously you have other issues.
Like I said, I'm not stating an opinion either way about either company.
You are the only one with the vehement and somewhat unnervingly biased
opinions here.
Good luck with that. Nothing personal.

When I think of altruistic organizations serving the betterment of mankind,
Apple and Microsoft don't even come to mind. They don't just fail to come
to
mind 1st or second...they just don't come to mind.
Arguing the humanitarian value of large corporations whose product is at
best a
luxury item for most of the world is a bit like arguing that it doesn't rain
enough
on the sun and Mercury is to blame. ;-)
Also, in my not so humble opinion.

It sounded like you were saying by nature all businesses are greedy. Thad
was saying that SJ is greedy. He also stated it's because iTunes is closed
and Apple has tied iTunes to their hardware. It's true that it is tied to
their hardware MP3 players, that's just smart business for them, and it is
because of the deals they made with the record companies. I don't think
they had much of a choice.
Apple did however open itunes up to WinBlows! Apple doesn't keep you from
add non Apple purchased MP3 to their iPod. They make a Windows version of
the iPod, and they don't charge any more for it. Jobs would like to drop
all DRM, and open up the market to third party MP3 players. He's knocked
for that here also. Why should SJ ever open it up to third party MP3 players?
Did MS open up VMs in all their version of Vista? No! Why not?
This post was DJ he was saying that he didn't find any thing wrong with iTunes.
I think he expected it to be a "KLUG". I posted back to tell him about
some cool features and some ways I've used it. but it wasn't long before
someone posted, WINDOWS! WINDOWS! WINDOWS! Windows Media Player is good
too! Ok! Where did MS get the ideas for the features, the interface, the
look and even down the Aqua note with the CD? They copied it from Apple!!!!!!!!!
So then it went to Thad knocking Apple, iTunes, Steve Jobs for their DRM
and being greedy. Not cool! Apple's DRM isn't really DRM. I drag files
on to my non Apple MP3 player all the time with no problems and no restrictions.
Just compare that to Microsoft's DRM! Look at all the big brother shit
MS has going on in their software. They steal from others and then prosecute
others for copying their software. Yes software Nazis! Maybe your cool
with this kind of unethical business practice, where did you say your from?
Apple and crusade? No, just standing up to the lies and the bashing. By
the way, there are some Mac users here. Since you bring up crusades, who
is on a crusade? Aren't you the big Christian? Your posts aren't so Christian
like!!!!! Maybe you should think about things. You've even said you posting
to screw with me. So have fun with your taunting posts.
I never said Habitat for Humanity or any other charities are communist.
It sounded like you were saying all businesses are greedy, and that statement
sounds like communist idealism. So how many days have you volunteered for
Habitat for Humanity?
Nothing personal? Come on dude, it's getting totally personal!

Yo, Mr Isallimsayin makes a good point here -- that a "console becomes
the focus of your room" is undeniably true. And the
brand-consciousness of the average Studio User is therefore likely to
undermine the joy of parking a "Yamaha DM-anything"" in the middle of
ones little World of Sound.
Which ain't to say that this console isn't a worthy piece of gear --
just that it lacks mojo.
Then again, this neo-Neve thing they're rolling out at $30k for 16
channels is an example of the opposite extreme -- jacking up the price
of something on account of whose name is tattooed on the side...
-- okay, I'll shut up now and let people who know more talk -- chas.James - now you are making it personal. You haven't gotten a single thing

I've said here.
I said over and over again that it's just a silly computer regardless of who
makes it.
Hardly of significance in the grand scheme.
And since you are choosing to throw my faith back in my face and slander me
personally
as a means to support your argument then this conversation is over.
Btw - I've spent a lot of time volunteering for Habitat in 4 different
states, have a close relative that works for them,
and have met and heard Millard Fuller speak in person (the founder).
