>james,
i went through about 8 to 10 months of back and forth with apple on
this. they did replace the cpu, mobo, boot drive twice during this
period. the problem was is that they kept giving me the prototype
version. while it would benchmark fine once it was put in the real
world nothing worked. i could take my drives and install them on
other macs and it performed fine. bring theirs into mine and the same
no works results ensued. hell. a single 867 notebook could smoke my
dual 1.25 running the same data through it. after several months of
the back and forth calling i was able to bypass all the lower folk and
talk to the tech folk direct. it was shortly after that i was told
that once i put anything into the computer ie. ram, drives or programs
of any kind that apple could not and would not warranty it working
properly. in so far as informing apple of my situation, they knew
that this was a recording studio and my sole livelihood. after that i
exploded...(quietly) and hung up.
as far as filing a suit goes i think the only successful suit brought
against apple was a class action one a couple of years ago.
thanks

hate it when you buy something, and the new and improved model comes out the
next week. I've been looking at the new G5's, but sure as shit if I buy one,
next week Apple will start shipping the new Intel Macs at 4 GHz or some
such. I will admit that Apple has had a less than stellar reputation for
taking care of the customer. I would have a bad taste in mouth if I were in
your shoes also. Like I say, my system isn't the fastest Mac out there, but
it does what I need at the moment and I'm just gonna leave it be. I just
bought a Power Book with Tiger installed. Hopefully MOTU will get DP updated
soon so I can switch it over and dedicate the old G4 to PARIS only. Until
then, it's still dual boot for me.

>Hi Guys & Gals,
How is everyone implementing Serial ATA drives into their multi-card PAris
PC/Mac..
I recently purchased 2-300gig(16meg cache)serial ata drives on my Asus A7n8xE-Deluxe
However, on this resides 4 EDS cards..Now, The EDS's are now in a war with
the Serial Ata drivers..
Very bad.. Both are fighting over PCI bandwidth..
Any work arounds?? I though about getting into a Magna Chasis to aleviate
this problem..Yes/No?? Thanks?Aaron,
I pulled the card and sent it back to the party I bought it from and they
are sending me another one to replace it. When the new card arrives I will
see if I have the same problem. Will keep ya'll informed when I try to get
the system up again.
Thanks for the reply

This is exactly what I want to do.
Not out of sequence, just more optiions than say a Roxio with 2 second or
3 or whatever they allow so I have an accurate sequencing to give to a mastering
guy to follow..also so we can test drive the sequence for a week or so.
That is great of WL Essentials will do it. The Steinberg guy said no, but
he may have misunderstood me. He siad I needed the full version for that!
So UAD plugs are also ok in WL E?

>>LaMont,
I can't see why there would be more data on the bus than there would be with
IDE. As I understand it's the same protocol etc, so data throughput should
be the same as standard IDE.
Also, depending on your MB chipset, many new chipsets don't shove everything
down the PCI bus, but deal with things straight from the chipset to the SATA
ports. This is obviously ideal as it not only clears up the PCI bus, but
also allows quicker transfer of data to and from the SATA ports because they
don't rely on the limited PCI bandwidth. Indeed, if I'm not mistaken, that
MB has a NVidia chipset, and I was under the impression that all the NVidia
chipsets did this. This is worth checking as it is possible that your fault
is elsewhere.
You're sure it's not an interrupt thing?
Cheers,
Kim.

You're right..it is an iterupt thing with the Nvidia chipset..I ihave re-installed
the XP(Sp1) clean..Still when load in Paris EDS ,it wants to share with the
on-board Serial Ata and the Video Drivers..My Clean OS install ( Standard
PC. What gives?
I hear that these new MB with NVIDA chipsets are a pain in !@# to change
or steer interupts.. If that's so..Then I can you aor anyone recommend me
a MB that a user can manualkly steer interupts? This is really getting to
me. As of late, If had to use Nuendo to mix projects on.. it's okay, but
I sure to do mis my Paris Sound.. :) Thanks again Mont

Personally, the MB I have (also NVidia) isn't tooooo bad for interrupts,
but I beleive I would be pushing things to expect to run 4 EDS cards on it.
I could probably do it but I'd have to disable some of the onboard hardware,
which would not be a problem for a dedicated Paris box I guess. I'm not sure
on that though. I'd need to double check the BIOS and see what could be done.
Cheers,
Kim.

Good to see a year on that things are moving on as usual. Many of the old
crew are still around, and my server seems to be happy in it's role and doing
the job pretty nicely. All the hardware is handling the load.
In the next couple of months I'll be moving the server to a new home. :o)
Cheers,

big thanks to you I might add.

Congratulations !,and thank you
for keeping this community together.
This group is unlike most others - I speak
with parisites almost daily and marvel at
the brotherhood of this place. Even when
there is disagreement, differences eventually
get put aside and great ideas ( Chuck please pardon the pun )
are exchanged.
Paris en vie long !

Perhaps we should make this official Chuck Duffy Day? Where we remember all
