---=_linux4461685e--You get one shot...
Jack has all kinds of out-take discs from nearly everyone in Jazz.
I've heard quite a few and I must say that the original discs, even
from 1938 or so, sound really quite good. Analog, of course, turns
to crap with copy after copy, but that was simply the only way to
make records for the public. And of course, the master would wear
out eventually and the copies made earliest in the run always
sounded best. BUT, if you ever have a chance to hear the original
disc, they are often quite impressive.
Yes, players had to have killer chops back then. BTW, you did NOT
want to be the poor soul who played a clam on a Benny Goodman
date...

Great Move!
Do you remember that “Direct To Disk” came back for a while in the late 70’s.
I worked on a few.
I never worked with the Duke, but I did work with Teddy Wilson, Eubie Blake,
Earl Heinz, The Stan Kenton Orc. and a few others.
Loved that shit.
GeneGood to hear.
Looking at that photo of you making the post with the photo in it is like
looking at one of those photos where you can see the photo you're looking
at in the photo.
I see a familiar looking UPS on the floor... ;o)
Cheers,
Kim.

I/O's properly assigned? i'm also assuming you have the midi cables
connected to there proper port assignments. i have mine (4 version)
connected to both my mac and pc via a usb hub and also using midi
cables connected to the various gear (m24 controller and a pro 88 kb).

Most of them were with Hank O'Neal, who was just starting Chiaroscuro Records
here in NYC. Hank had the great idea to start a jazz label to record all
the great old legends that were still around but not signed to any label.
I was just starting out and primarily I was acting as an assistant, for which
I never received any credits (or pay), but it was a great time for me, and
after doing several recordings with Hank, I started to gain a reputation
for understanding jazz recording. So I benefited in many ways.
Most of the Chiaroscuro sessions were very minimal. Typically a live mix
into a two track. An example would be a session I did with Hank and Teddy
Wilson that was released as “Live In The White Room” which was recorded in
a former brothel that Teddy had worked at many years earlier. We used my
Revox A77HS because it was brand spanking new, and a few Sony condensers
(ECM22-P probably.) Many of these simple recordings still hold up very well
today.
Unfortunately (for me) in the early 80’s while I was away in LA trying to
build my career as a producer, my entire record collection was ruined by
a flood in my parents house, so I don’t have any copies of my early records.
I should have rebuilt my collection over the years but I always put it off.
:-(
Gene
P.S.
Some of the details like the exact name of the record and the mics used,
are from my 25 year old recollections so…geez...i'm totally choked...don't even know what to say....always though
he was bulletproof....

I'm reading Geoff Emerick's book about recording the Beatles. One thing
he mentions over and over is that they would work on vocal harmonies with
George Martin and rehearse them for hours at a time. Perhaps all the folks
on Gearslutz looking for the perfect mic pre should consider that.In sweltering Tucson? This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

Rick,
Thanks for the help Rick
Are you passing MTC through it or is that outside the box?
Do you use a separate MIDI box for Cubase to get to it or
do you leave the USB in while in use? Are able to get
MIDI input? I have to triple check my settings for that.
It shows 8 ins, 8 outs and the SMPTE in outs under my
list of MIDI ports. I assign the output of my master keyboard
to Cubase, engage record and yet no note data is present
when it's complete. ???
While hooked up via USB the box outputs data to everything fine.
I have to disconnect the USB to get my presets to function though.
Seems odd. Once the USB is disconnected then there's no=20
link to Cubase! =20
I'll try some more things,

chrisl@adkproaudio.comI don't want to jump the gun here but it looks like dumping all the
overviews then reloading the songs and rendering everything to new tracks,
then dumping the original tracks seems to be doing the trick
What a friggin pain

>Thanks Chris...........I think this statement from the omnipotent elder geek
pretty much sums up my experience with this, as follows:
Frankly, I don't recommend you change any of the services from the default
installation of XP. Yes, you may pick up a tiny performance gain by fiddling
with the settings, but it won't be anything substantial. It's just my
opinion, but if you are in a situation where these gains are necessary to
achieve an increased level of system performance, it would be wiser to
upgrade the physical system to one that is adequate to benefit from the XP
operating system.
......however, now that I know of the eldergeek.......my life will be a
living hell until I read and attempt to grok all of this.
If a tweak is done in the woods and no one is there to hear see it, did it
make any noise at all?
;o)

>Back in the 90's I was joensin' of a Lexicon 480L. SSC chimed in about this
and happened to mention that he had one that he had been using for target
practice and was now being used as a doorstop. He went on to renumerate a
few reasons why he thought it sucked and also opined that Quantec and Sony
made far superior products. I took that to heart and though I do own Lexicon
products, I also own Quantec and Sony units as well and I have been very
happy with them so I'm gonna' have to buy him a drink when we meet up
eventually.

>Hey Tom -- thanks for that perspective... That unit is still first on
my list if I get around to putting my little "go anywhere" laptop rig
together... Want to run that with the RME Fireface box -- whole bunch
of channels available for whatever one might encounter in live
situations, and the True box has (I think) an extra set of balanced
outs -- to give back to the live sound guy, I figure -- bound to be
better pre's than most anything they'd usually have...
And of course -- would be nice to have those channels available in the
studio when not doing remote stuff...
thanks again -- Chas.
