------=_NextPart_000_016E_01C693AF.27A40BA0--Hi folks...You can "learn" relative pitch ..such as a 440 tuning fork
tone..if you hear it over and over again...now whether you can discern "339"
or "441" is very doubtful...Perfect Pitch would be someone who can name
EXACT frequencies...without hearing ANY pitch reference...I am a piano tuner
so A - 440 is "Drilled" into my sub-conscious...and I can tune a guitar to
440
no problem...but that is "relative pitch"..Like someone else noted, learning
the intervals in Music, is way more important that naming a
frequency...unless you are a sound guy ,trying to find feedback from a sound
system,or a Mastering Engineer to find offending frequencies by ear..As far
as "colors" of notes go..that is a very old
concept, dating back to the 1600's,before any "equal temperment" was set as a
"standard"...there were many different early "temperments",based on
feelings,colors,etc....cheers

>Hey JP! Here is what I recommend you try.
You will need to know how much memory is available for Paris. Do a "about
this Mac" from the Apple menu to see how much memory is available for Paris
Go to the Paris program where ever it's located, and click once on the Paris
icon just to high light it. Do a "get info", Go file> Get info>memory.
Allocate more memory to the Paris program, type in a higher number In the
preferred memory box.
Try reloading the program again.
If that does not work, you may have an Extensions conflict. Check the Paris
Q&A web page to see Mac extension settings. Create an optimized extension
set just for Paris. Or you could just start with the system extensions and
paris extensions. You may have to test different extensions, by adding and
rebooting.
Good luck!

Try giving the program more memory first, then if that doesn't work, then
try reloading the program.

Turnabout is fair play. I think you should teach them a lesson by finishing
off the Alpo.
GeneJames, thanks!
this seems to be the fix--
more memory allocated to the program.
paris 101 indeed.
do i feel foolish?

-CarlDon't feel foolish, this is the number one reason people think Macs crash.
It's because they do, if you don't give the programs enough memory. Everybody
forgets this. Me included.

had a trash hound in the house for a
while until I pepper the trash with cayene. He hasn't touched it since. As
you said....
I wonder what happened?

http://www.polesoft.com/refer.htmlYears ago we had just gotten a new puppy. The lady that sold him to us told
us he had only been fed dog food, and to never feed him people food. Well
one day my dad came home with a bucket of KFC, and set it on the kitchen
table. My dad proceeded to the bathroom to wash his hands, of corse my dad
got in to the chicken on the way home from KFC. Anyways, the puppy had jumped
up on the chair, then up on the table. He had the bucket turned over on
it's side, he was half inside the bucket with his tail wagging. About the
same time my dad and I walked in to the kitchen from opposite sides. I'll
never forget the look on my dad's face, when he pointed at the puppy and
said, Dog food my ass! He knew exactly what that was!

But there are many dog breeds who need the occasional slap on the butt or
nose in order to remain alive, as opposed to being put down for dangerous
behavior. My friend's pit/retriever mix: so sweet, but so damn stubborn

Great Danes are just big kitty cats, or so I hear. Big, smelly, lap-sitting,
dog-like kitty cats.
And I'm a good man, gentle and domesticated. But if a dog ate my roast I'd
have to put it's face in the wrapper and spank it on the hiney several
times, real hard and smart-like. Make it feel chagrined for a few moments.
Roast beef ain't cheap.

JamesThis thing is so friggin' stable now that I can't even get it to
crash.........and believe me, if anyone here can crash a computer........
I'm jinking it around brutally, loading and unloading plugins, starting
/stopping, moving tracks around, dragging stuff from screen to screen. You
name it. Native DAWs shouldn't be this stable. Maybe I'll try to load up
Ivory VSTi while I'm playing back a 40 track project. That oughta' kill it
for sure.

Now I need to internally ( in Paris's patch - the software ) to connect

uot;Pineapple Head") into Logic, then recorded that into PARIS via SPDIF
in two different ways:
HDSP9652 SPDIF -> PARIS SPDIF (Logic on Mac sync'd to ADAT signal from PARIS
on PC, using PARIS as master deck with Logic slaved via MTC)
then
HDSP9652 ADAT -> PARIS ADAT (Logic on Mac sync'd to ADAT signal from PARIS
on PC, using PARIS as master deck with Logic slaved via MTC).
I can't hear a difference. There's no level loss or anything. 0dBFS in
Logic = 0dBFS in PARIS.
I also recorded the track from a domestic CD player thru a preamp into PARIS
via an 8-in card, firstly using internal sync in PARIS, then again locked to
Word Clock from an HDSP9652 card installed on the same PC. I think I prefer
the sound of PARIS' internal sync. Seems to be slightly more forward or
something - what should I be listening for ? I recall you saying in one of
your posts that the sound of your PARIS rig improved noticeably once you
started clocking externally.
Hmmm...

>>Hi,
Well out of the game in terms of what's going on in terms of plug ins for
Paris. I've got Waves Platinum bundle, but that's it.
Any recommendations?
I'm after pretty much anything, but definitely need:
- some great reverbs (any good Impulses etc) - especially for vocals, acoustic
guitar, and some good early reflections programmes
- compressors
- flanger
- delay
Naturally if they're free, that's a bonus!
The project I'm about to start working on is kind of folky - so think vashti
bunyan / nick drake meets michael hedges / justin king type fingerstyle guitar
(if that means anything to anyone!).
Many thanks for any hot tips / presets, etc!
Cheers,
Danfor paris. desperately and urgently needed!
any bright ideas?
cheers,
danP.S. Just to illustrate how clueless I am re: current state of plug ins: don't
have a clue what chaining and wrapping, etc. are!
Also, a "squishy" software compressor would be great (though I do have a
focusrite TwinTrack Pro, which might perhaps be better ...?)

CPU.
I'd love to upgrade, but do not want to go through re-
authorization of Paris and all my other plugs and software.
Can I just buy a new MOBO and CPU, and put it in my existing
tower, keeping my current hard drives? Would it be easier to
get them in a new tower, and move all of the drives to the new
tower?
And what would you recommend for a MOBO/ CPU combo for Paris?
Am I missing anything? I assume that this is all I will need
to upgrade, and I could certainly be wrong.
Thanks so much!
