Thanks. It won't be going online - aside from being connected to my
home lan for file transfer. Other than that, I have several other
pc's for net access.
Right now, I'm only running one EDS card, so I should be cool.
However, I'll call Dell and see if I can bump the psu up. Yeah, I
know they're some funky proprietary thing. I hate that about Dell.
Didn't know about skipping sp2 - good to know.
I do know about the funky fat partition - I've Dellt (hah! I crack me
up sometimes....) with that before. On the pc I set up for my wife, I
just used a straight non-Dell copy of XP, completely fdisked the HD,
and let Windows make one partition.
If I need to go with 2 or 3 cards eventually, I will by that point
have enough back in the toy fund to most likely just build a custom
box to run stuff on.
Between that and rackmounting my Oasys G4, it looks like it's time to
add another rack to my basement....

Yeah, ain't that the truth......
Don't worry - I'm not going completely over to the Dark Side. I still
have my Dual 1GHz Quicksilver as my main house pc, the G4 for running
my Oasys card and some other stuff, and the G4 for the mobile Paris
rig.
Not to mention my shiny 2.55GHz 15" MacBookPro, set up with both
Parallels XP and BootCamp XP in addition to Tiger. And the SE/40 I
keep on the shelf because it's cool.
pabIn my case I got that error meassge on startup as Paris was
trying to launch, then Paris would fail to lunch; one time, it
launched just fine on the scond try, the next time it took me
two tries. In each case when it DID launch sucessfully, the
ADAT card did indeed show up (I have an ADAT module & an 8-in
in the same MEC - both of them were showing up).
I didn't get a chance last night to try those tweaks, after
all, tonight I should be able to.

something like that available, what with all the freeware

I used to use an older version of Logic for MIDI-only with
Paris when I had an XP-80... worked perfect. Sync'ed great...
you just need to make sure to give it a measure or two lead-in
and I found it worked better to slave Paris to the MIDI app,
not the other way around like the manual says.

there's a song in there somewhere.....Bob Seeger??
;o)I rented a car from Hertz for my little sojurn to Denver last week. I had a
big bunch of CD's for the trip but this car had a sirius system in it. I
hardly listened to any of the CD's. What was surprising to me was that the
programmers on this station pretty much had the **** down as far as I was
concerned. It was very enjoyable......and now I'm thinking that if I don't
have this.........One of my clients wanting to set up a second system at a friend's place
where he does some of his tracking/mixing. He is currently using an 002
(which I think sounds just fine). He has been told by a sales rep that the
003 has "noticably" better converters and preamps. Well, he uses external
pres anyway, so pre's aren't really an issue. I just can't imagine the 003
converters being anywhere close to "noticably better" on a unit with this
price point.
Anyone here A/B'ed the 002 and 003? (His 002 is the full version, not the
002 Rack FWIW, though I would imagine that the converters are the same on
those anyway)
Any possible compatibility issues with moving session files between the two?
(again, I can't imagine why there would be if the software versions were the
same but it never hurts to ask.)
I'm tempted to just advise him to get an 002 Rack and carry on.
ThanksYou can have one, but I know you. If you don't word clock and put a set of
hi end convertors on it, then you'll.....

>Well, Beryl doesn't let me write email, fix broken machines, compose music,
or use Emacs any better/faster. I did turn it on in Feisty but that was on
a laptop with shared video memory on an integrated video card, so it couldn't
do much.
There are some things I might like about it. Window transparency can be useful.
The desktop switching even I have to admit is pretty cool, though I have
hotkeys to switch between desktops so it would be mostly something I'd so
other people.
I guess it just comes down to the fact that for me a computer is every but
as much a tool as a hammer. If a change doesn't help me drive nails faster,
or straighter, or with less work I don't care about it. Some (many? most?)
people feel differently.

Well, until I play them...
We put a new pickguard on this guitar and some inserts in the
neck and some new pickups. I volunteered to put it back together
and set it up myself rather than having my guitar-builder friend do
the whole thing...
Wrong....
DANG these things take a LOT of work to assemble and setup
properly... I have about 9 hours in it now...
But what a sound... I just love it.
Anybody play 12-string?
