you make 12 slices out of a server that could handle 4 if they were all at
full load. Let slices borrow from each other most of the time, and then balance
demanding slices across hardware when necessary. Bandwidth is cheap.
Anyway, I'm thinking about a $20 slice for me as a Debian playground for
a couple of uses.

How do you know?
I want to seperate my audio drive into 2 partitions.
One for recording and tracking (on the outside of the platter)
and the other for mixing etc...(inside of the platter).
I will be using Partition Magic 8.
thx
bMain response--it doesn't matter anymore. Disk performance is about 100th
on the list of issues for DAWs.
Secondary response. The outside of the disk will have the highest throughput,
i.e. number of MB/s. The lowest _latency_ will be when files are contiguous,
regardless of which part of the disk they are on. Latency is a function how
much time the head of the drive spends seeking, i.e. not doing anything while
moving to the part of the drive where it will read, while throughput is a
function of how fast the drive is spinning. The outer part of the drive spins
marginally faster. A 10k drive has more throughput than a 7.2k drive.
None of which matters, at all, these days. Just format it and start recording.

>Dimitrios,
If the spdif out of the A/D converter is fed to the Pulsar spdif input, then
the Pulsar would be receiving clock signal from the AD. To my knowledge, a
device can't be clocked from it's own digital output, only from a signal
arriving at it's digital input if it is set to slave so the AD would not be
clocked from the Mytek.unless it has a BNC clock input that can be fed a WC
signal.
As for the DAC-1, I use this and it will basically lock to the incoming
clock signal from Paris/Mytek and then upsample this signal before
converting it back to analog. The newer units upsample to 192k. Mine
upsamples to 96k.
That's pretty cool that you got VSTi to work with Paris.

>Hi all,
Ok, I've decided to keep my 737sp, and I just bought a 747 for the 2-buss. I recently also got a red type b mic, which I really like!
Now, I've got a Rode K2 here which has never really done it for me either (on mainly vox and acoustic gtrs). Anyone found good uses for these? Tube replacement maybe?
I know it's not ever a great idea to sell mics, but I just find it's one of those mics that I have to fight with, say compared to the type b. It's not as clear or present to my ears.
I've got a good friend who loves the K2 mic on cello (above some much higher end mics), but I don't think I'll be recording cello anytime soon..
Any thoughts?
Cheers,
TCHey...someone posted a "Mens Top Ten Rules" a while back. I can't seem to
find it now. Does anyone have it???
RodYeah, I'm not philosophically opposed to the guy cashing in on his good
idea. My main problems are:
1. He lied to us, assuming that none of us knew enough about IT to know
better. He flat lied to us.
2. The forum was wonderful, and now it is bordering on sucky.
3. It may have been his idea, but like any user forum, it is not his. It is
the sum of its many people-parts. Period. If it was just his idea, it would
have been nothing. It was the community that was of value, and now it's
gone.
I'm really pissed.

So, did you ever make that mistake again? ;-)
Reminds me of two true stories, one related, one maybe not...
1) My ex-wife and I had that age-old argument. I finally offered an idea
that stuck - we'd BOTH close the toilet. I especially liked that idea
because we had a dog that loved to drink out of the thing and dribble
everywhere. (Female dog, if it matters...) So, one day, I'm sitting there,
minding my own business, when Mimi runs in the room doing the pee dance like
you wouldn't believe. OK, so I finish up, stand, turn around and flush and
close the lid out of habit, then turn to the sink. A moment later I hear an
un-Godly sound behind me! Turns out that she hadn't paid attention to the
fact that I closed the lid and she'd done the
spin-around-while-dropping-the-pants routine, only to plant her butt on the
lid and pee all over herself! (And of course get mad at ME!)
2) My current wife and I have two kids. For a while there, the bathroom was
really starting to smell like pee. I scrubbed (yes, me, the guy...) the
entire toilet, the floor, the wall, the tub, etc, but the smell just
wouldn't go away! Dang... Well, one night I was on the computer and I
heard my son get up and go into the bathroom. Something didn't seem right,
so I walked over and looked in - my son, who seemed to be sleep walking, had
opened the doors under the sink and was peeing away into the cabinet! We
had a lot of bathtub sponge toys, so they had been soaking it all up...

Have you ever lifted the seat and looked at the bottom side of it? Must be
splash back from people who sit down... ;-)

I would suggest one of the MOTU firewire interfaces since I've had good
experiences with MOTU. But she only really needs one channel so those
would be buying more than she needs.
This was mentioned here recently, is it decent?

Any other suggestions?

www.JamieKrutz.comJamie,
I recently spec'd a VO system for a friend in the western part of the state
in a similar situation - looking for good quality but not overkill - I'm
going with the TC Konnekt 8 for him as it's pres have gotten great reviews
(haven't heard it yet, so take that for what its' worth - in that price
range it probably is the best of the bunch).
For a mic, the Blue Bluebird is a great mic for VO - nice even, clear
response across the board - smooth highs too which isn't common in sub-$1k
mics.
Regards,
Dedric

> www.JamieKrutz.comMore similarities than differences. Amazing. I do like the 5043 a lot as
it's still got a little bit of an organic edge to it and I can use it for
tracking, but the UAD-1 33609 is standing toe-to-toe with the Portico as a
channel insert in a mix. I never thought I'd see the day when it was hard to
tell the difference between a software plugin and a very high end hardware
processor.Yeah, I keep the lid down, too, to keep my cat out of the toilet water.
Good trick on Mimi, though. :)
