n stiff, hard reset, then box wont even boot, all fan and HD spinning
but no beeps. I reset the AGP and PCI cards and the computer comes back to
life but my displays have all changed resolution and the Matrox 450 will not
let me set them back to 1280 x 1024, tells me to check my device manager
which is fine, no flags anywhere. Meanwhile, the client shows up and starts
to warm up in the booth. I whip out the old Norton boot diskette and re-load
an image from Jan 10th. Back in business, displays are fine and the client
never even noticed. Lesson to be learnt, ghosting is your friend.....!!

headroom. The Paris submix clip lights are lit up like a Christ mas tree
when the singer pipes up and says....."man, that sounds great, but I need
more level on the vocal". The engineer (being me) just grins and pushes up
the fader on the Paris track. It doesn't clip.....it should, but it doesn't.
;oDNo way. It's embedded now.

Anyhoo, some kids here in town have pretty hip metal band going and they
asked me to do some recording for them. My space is teenie, so they got a
local theater -on the second floor of an old local town hall. Loads of
1920's soul. I unhooked my Paris rig and computer, hooked it back up again
at the theater, ran eight lines in, and presto -what a great sound. Man,
even the rough mixes, just tossing the faders around, and I got some great
tones. Two things were especially cool for me. First, even with my high
tower computer Paris is really very portable. Second, this was my first
time tracking a band, I usually just track midi stuff, so working with warm
bodies playing real-time was quite nifty.
We're going to tracks some vocals tomorrow, so there's still more fun to
come... and then we're on to mixin' hehe.
Cheers,
MRI've never been before, but hey, five stages playing jazz for three and a
half days... how bad can it be?
Hopefully when I come back I'll be interested in music again! ;o)

Cheers,
Kim...............I heard this was an *alcohol free* venue.

I wouldn't have a clue actually. Could be, but if it is, well I'll have to
skip the jazz at one point and go to a pub. The festival covers the whole
town, so there must be somewhere selling alchohol as well as playing jazz...
....surely...
....isn't there...
....there must be...
....?? ;o)
Cheers,
Kim.

We're going to give it another good listen today and make notes song by song
(should have done this weeks ago but there were a number of things that
slowed this down) Remixes should go quickly if called for. The issues are
small ones and as the client says......"man, nobody but you would even hear
that". It's really a matter of what kind of playback device is being used at
this point. There are some things I hear/don't hear on my car stereo that
aren't even noticable on bigger systems, but since this is where people
listen to music, I want to address these issues.I have compared this mix to
