not meet the Substantial Presence Test (SPT). The SPT is a mathematical =
formula that calculates the number of days present in the current =
calendar year and the appropriate preceding two to six years. An =
individual that meets the SPT is considered a resident alien for tax =

An individual's days of presence may be exempted when calculating the =
number of days for the Substantial Presence Test if s/he is:=20

illegal aliens pay an average of $4,200 in federal taxes, for a total of
about 16 billion per year.
So despite the status problem you mention, many illegal aliens DO seem
to be paying federal taxes, and not an insignificant amount.
That site goes on to claim that illegal aliens are still causing an
average net drain of $2,700 per household. However this is interesting:
they claim that if illegal aliens were made legal, they would have an
average net drain of almost $7,700 per household, almost triple.
I don't know if those figures are solid, but I believe illegal aliens
ARE contributing to the federal tax system. It would be interesting to
know if those who have been here for a while and have become somewhat
established contribute more on a yearly basis than those who have just
arrived.
