Over the past month, about a day a week, my PARIS system has pretty much
freaked out.
Pops, crackles, arcade sounds, etc.
It's been hot here in NJ so I figured it was a temprature thing.
I took the eds cards out - cleaned them and re-installed - all was fine for
about two weeks
Now I have the same problem but it's worse.

Any thoughts? Should I consider the power suppy.
The PC runs fine other than the paris problems.

It's probably a bad eds card - hopefull not the one tied to the software.

How can I do that?

Leave PC's cover off for a while, and even add a fan to cool the
innards.
Power supplies are cheap.
It's worth considering a replacement, even if this is not the
core problem. You may find that a new supply will be more efficient,
and not generate as much heat.
Worst case... old supplies can go "poof", and fry your mobo and/or peripherals.
(EDS cards!).
Least case... you will have a supply that is up to spec
for the next couple of years, thereby eliminating age related
voltage drop. You don't need to buy anything expensive.
Even a low-end Antec, Thermaltake or similar, is going to be
better than a generic P/S that comes standard with cheap cases.
I have a 4 EDS system here, and in hot weather, I leave the side
panel off, and even blu-tacked a fan to the bottom of the case,
blowing over the EDS's.
Heat, (especially with multiple EDS's), could well be the enemy.

What kind of improvement did you notice ? was it subtle, or night and day ?I'm using a Gen6. The difference is subtle.

"This means that we have no idea whether it will work with an early DAT machine

random digital PCI card that was manufactured in 1997."

Doesn't look any better than most decent sound cards word clock performance.
I can maybe see it having a positive effect on some older gear but a mid to high quality gear I have my doubts.

chrisl@adkproaudio.comHI Damien,
It would totally depend on what gear was being run from the Word clock.
If you are trying to clock multiple MEC boxes then a Lucid Genx 6 would make more sense with the Lucid running as the master clock for the whole thing.
If you only have one MEC and are using some more recent digital with it then you would probably want to run that gear as long as is able to and is a a good quality.

Just wondering if anyone is looking forward, haven't seen any discussion
about this other than Kerry's post about future developments and of course
the hard work of Mike Audet, Dimitrios, Sakis, Mike Yanoska, Matt Craig,
Aaron Allen, Doug Wellington and others which I have failed to mention,
apologies and prostrations :-)

"Development of the motor fader control continues. I'm working with an
employee of a major mixing desk company to come up with a with a new control

faders are $100 EACH! $1700 for faders alone in the C-16 replacement. Ouch.
I've decided to stick with Alps products for development."No other digital gear.

- 75W. To give you an idea... I am running the following:

1 - DM2000
2 - 19"LCD
2 - JBL LSR6328
1 - JBL LSR6312
2 - REDD47 pre
1 - Avalon 737sp
2 - Ampex MX10
1 - Presonus ADL-600
1 - Focusrite ISA428
1 - Cental station
1 - Rosendahl Nanoclock
1 - Rosendahl WIF
2 - Rack mount computers (1 for Paris with 2 - C16)
1 - 13sp Magma 1/2 full
2 - MEC's 1/2 full of cards
1 - Crown D40 amp

*ALL* off of *ONE* 15A circuit = less than 1500W.

I think you will be fine with a 750W UPS... but just to be safe, get the
largest you can comfortably afford. The larger unit will give you more
time to shut things down in the event of a power failure.
