't get too overboard. In any =
event, I *might* be able to approach what Paris can do now on modest =
projects (isn't that sick?)
the RAM:
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=3DN82E1682022 7187
The total with a new PSU and video card would be around $1800.00....or =
less if I just went with 2GHz RAM for now. Just a little more than the =
single socket Quad core Intel system. I'm seeing user reviews that say =
that these Opterons either smoke the Intel Xeons dual cores, or are at =
least as fast. One big advantage I see to going with this dual socket =
setup is that, at least from what I'm hearing with the ASUS mobo, I'll =
be able to drop dual AMD quads or Octos in it if need be. The other big =
advantage is that I can run my UAD-1's/Magma via the 32 bit PCI slot in =
either one of them. With the Tyan, I can interface the other Magma with =
the RME cards via the PCIX slot. With the the ASUS I would have to =
spring for a PCIe interface for one of my Magmas ($299.00) and use the =
PCIe x 1 slot.. When 64bit OS becomes a must, I could still go with the =
SBS PCIe>PCI chassis and likely interface with either of these mobos.
The Tyan has much more in the way of options. It's a monster, but if it =
won't support future CPU upgrades, that's something to consider. I hope =
it will, bec

Back in the '70s I occasionally shopped their original store on Sunset
Blvd. This was the sales cycle:
Customer: "Hey, man, can I try that Mutron Phasor pedal."
GC salesman: "Are you buying today?"
Needless to say, I shopped at Nadine's.
BillOnce again, its so amazing how far ahead of its time Paris was -still is!!
Its not sample accurate and I certainly have not tried to mic up a big
session (biggest was a four piece band), but locking with smpte (to drive
computers that run midi stuff) Paris continues to rock. In fact, the only
reason I don't use it more is simply because I'm trying to make the thing
last by keeping the hours down on the card, MEC and C16. Having said that,
it sure will be nice to get all that functionality in one box :-)
By the way, thanks for posting about your change over to Cubase DJ. Its
been very helpful as I (we :-) ) look to the future.
....boldly go.

I certainly agree with this.

It's sample accurate if you slave another app to Paris ADAT sync.

It's gotta' be a very expensive box to come anywhere close to what Paris can
do.

My antics are a direct result of my having read innumerable posts here by
folks like Dedric, LaMont, Brian T., Aaron, Thad, Dave, Neil, John and
numerous others and therefore my pain is all their fault.
